My sister mentioned on Sunday that everyone was watching the Superbowl that day and my kids are like "What a superbowl?" That's how into sports my family is.
Ok, I liked the first season of Friday Night Lights, but I'm on the second season now and right off the bat the show feels totally uncomfortable to watch. It feels like it lost that spark the first season had, especially after they kill that stalker/rape dude by accident and don't call the police. That just annoyed me right there, especially since his dad is a cop.
Does it get better again? Because I'm seriously thinking of not watching the final 4 seasons now because of a crappy start to a second season.
It's pretty widely accepted that season 2 was off. I didn't mind it but it's definitely my least favorite. It was also the writers' strike season so it just oddly cuts out half way through the story. Season three feels a lot like season one and is a lot of people's favorite. They started winning awards in seasons 4 and 5 and you'll see why. One episode in season 4 and the series finale are some of the best television I've ever seen.
Eli, can I ask which episode in Season 4? After reading this, I have watched the first four seasons in the past week and am about to start the last. Which is real depressing. However i'm interested in the episode you were talking about..?
10-4. I would definitely have to agree with you. Although I think the whole fourth season was brilliant in itself. And thanks for the post, i'm obsessed. You have good taste!
We can be friends. I spent Sunday night watching GROUNDHOG DAY because it was, in fact, Groundhog Day, February 2nd, the most important day of Winter. That, my friend, is priorities.
We had planned on watching Groundhog Day for, like, a month before! I go to my uncle's once a month for dinner and to catch up. Then I got the fateful text, telling me Groundhog Day would have to take a back seat to the stupid Super Bowl. We've decided we'll watch it next week. I broke tradition for my family...
Ugh, but televised football is the worst! -Well, among the worst. I love the Olympics, but can we finally agree to just skip curling?
I went to my uncle's house for the Super Bowl, and everyone knows I was only there for the food. And (some of) the commercials. I lasted through halftime, then very nearly sped home so I could watch me some season four of Downton Abbey. (My DVDs came in the mail last weekend! Gasp!)
I don't mind most live sports, but I lose all my patience with ferocious velocity when it's televised.
What I like to do, to be social, is sit in the same room as everyone watching the game while I read a book. That way I don't have to watch the, but I can throw out my witty comments when the situation allows. It's really a win-win for everyone.
Not caring about sports is probably saving your life. My dad and I care way too much about sports that we get worked up watching a game and then end up not being able to sleep that night because our adrenaline is still high. haha
We don't have TV, so we went to Home Depot. Which was surprisingly...quiet.
We did come home and try to do other important stuff Sunday, like nap and eat, but then we freaked out at the lastpossibleminute and connected the laptop to the big screen and watched the live feed for the first half. Then spent the whole time snacking and saying "WTH Broncos?!" We are the only people in the northwest who were like YEAH BRONCOS, and then-- this? We turned it off at the half.
For the streaming data through my phone with our maxed-out data allowance for January, we paid $30.00 to watch it, too, (thanks Verizon) so I think Denver owes us at least a pony or something. Installing those new under-cabinet lights would have been cheaper AND more exciting.
I'm a Seattlite, so I watched the game... and I liked it. Did I understand what was going on at the time? No, not really. But there was people, and food, and excitement, and funny commercials, and more food. I also took a break to go play in a Thomas the Train tent with my three year old nephew, which was also super fun!
I looove Friday Night Lights. I watched all of the seasons within a few weeks' time at the end of a semester when I had to stay up late every night doing homework. Basically it turned into me, alone on my couch at 3 , crying about a fictional football team... Proud moment right there.
Ok this is gonna sound crazy but ELI! You absolutely must watch Pretty Little Liars. It seems like it'd be right up your alley.
I was skeptical about it when my sister suggested it, because she has horrible taste. But them her husband agreed that i should watch it. And then my best friend's sister-in-law's brother admitted it was his guilty pleasure show, so i have it a try and oh my. I can just see you loving (and hating. Hating how much you love) this show.
Seasons 1-3 are on Netflix. You should give it a try. And if I'm right, and you end up addicted to this show like i am, i fully expect a blog post about it.
i always feel so left out because i feel like i'm the only one who doesn't care about the super bowl...or the oscars...or downton abbey.
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone :)
DeleteNot at all alone! I hate sports and I don't follow them at all. Or the oscars... or the downton abbey! :)

ReplyDeleteMine said the same thing. My friends looked at us like we have some kind of child neglect going on.

DeleteOk I will give it another go and try and power through season 2.
DeleteIf it's not good though...I'm coming to find you...and, rest assured, there will be nuggies...oh yes...there will be nuggies.
Lee, I read that as snuggies (minus the first 's' )

DeleteJamie, without giving any spoilers, it's the big Matt Sericon episode.

DeleteI love the super bowl, it means football is over for 7 whole months! and I get an excuse to cook a bunch of party foods!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand you at all.

ReplyDeleteI think you might enjoy this video. This is how nonsense I think all conversations are in the NFL

ReplyDeleteParks and Rec does take priority. You, sir, are awesome!
