Pictures from my Phone & Weekly Distractions

Merry Christmas, all. It's been snowing here. There is great misery in all the land.

My best friend Corey is coming into town today for a wedding. I haven't seen her in two years. She and her husband Michael will be staying with me tonight. I had to stay up late cleaning last night because somehow my apartment has not cleaned itself for the last three months.

I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA!

And now, your pictures and distractions.
The inversion in Salt Lake City is going to kill me.

I found this at Bob and Cathie's house. I have no words.

At a masquerade party with my friend Mallory.

There was a photo booth. And we practiced for 20 minutes before going in. And this is all we came up with.

Texts from Krishelle yesterday.

  3. Inversion sucks! You brought back a childhood memory for me. At one point during a particularly nasty inversion in SLC (lasted 6 weeks!), my Dad came home from work, announced to the house loudly, "I'M DRIVING TO FLORIDA. Who's going with me?" We scrambled clothes together, threw Christmas presents in the back of the car and drove to Florida. Dad drove nonstop until about New Orleans, spent a night, then drove on to Orlando...

...and wouldn't you know it, they had record cold in Florida that year! Orange crop freezing, all that sort of nonsense. but we saw the sun!

I think you would fit in quite nicely in my family Eli. Twice up the side and once down the barrel (that's the Arizona version).

    3. Thanks... and now I can be GRATEFUL to live ANYWHERE but SLC! (well, really anywhere that doesn't experience inversions, because that $#!+ is cray-cray).

I really kinda hate NC, but at least we don't have to deal with that.

Also, 50 Shades of Grey should be filed under "Books NO ONE should read."

  7. When I was riding the TRAX up to school, there would be little old ladies and middle aged women reading it to pass the time. I'm still trying to figure out if they didn't realize that there were people around them, or maybe they didn't realize what this book was about (however I did see one woman reading the SEQUEL, so she had to have known). How do I know there was a sequel? DON'T ASK ME HOW I KNOW THAT! I JUST DO OKAY!? Gosh... well it had the same looking cover, and I actually looked it up on the internet because people kept talking about this "grey" book. Me being the clueless chick that I am was like "hmm let's look it up online and see what the synopsis is and if it's any...OH MY GOSH WHAT THE CRAP IS THIS?! WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!??! AHHHHH! EXIT EXIT EXIIIIIIIIIT!!!!" Long story short I felt the need to disinfect my brain with hardcore bleach after THAT incident. Thank you internet.

  10. I have no idea what an inversion is. I googled it and it appears to be some sort of temperature phenomenon when it's colder closer to earth and warmer higher up? Still don't get why that's bad, other than it being cold. Can anyone explain this?

Also, I did read 50 Shades, and I found the poor writing much more offensive than the sexy time stuff! Geez, it was really awful.

    1. I think I forgot that not everyone lives in a valley surrounded by mountains and so not everybody has had to deal with this before. I can't explain the science behind it, because . . . science. But basically what happens is this: Salt Lake City sits down in a valley and there are very very tall mountains on every side of us--so it's like we're in a bowl. For some reason when it gets really cold, all of the smog from cars and buildings can't rise high enough to clear the mountains so it gets trapped down low and it stays that way until it either gets warm again (which doesn't happen in the dead of winter) or until it snows. So every year, usually in January, we go through these periods where it won't snow in the valley for a few weeks but it will be really cold so the dirty air gets thicker and thicker until they eventually start telling people to stay inside. It sucks and was one of the main reasons I wanted to go to Palau.

    2. Thank you for explaining! The picture makes sense now. That does suck though - it's like China in SLC!
