Personality Tests

I finally broke down and took one of those personality tests because the world has now come to a point that if you don't know what "color" you are, you can't have a normal conversation. I have been told multiple times lately that I'm a "red" but it hasn't meant much to me as I've never taken an active part in finding out what a "red" is. So I took the test last night so that a computer could tell me who I am because that's the way we have to do it now as opposed to driving into the mountains to do sincere soul searching like we used to back in the eighties (of course I was only 6 when the eighties were ending but I'm sure that's how we did it in the eighties). Apparently my friends and the computer are on the same page because I was told once again, electronically this time, that I am definitely "red". Well I read the description and may or may not be offended at this point as the "red" personality seemed to have everything to do with being bossy, impatient, irritable, and sometimes just downright scary; the concern was that my friends all tell me that my personality is "red" which I think is a nice code word for all the negative things I just explained that "red" describes. I'm now convinced that the whole color code system is in place just so people can attack one another's personalities without using harsh words. That's why when you hear someone talking about a person that they have some sort of a conflict with, today we don't say, "she's selfish, arrogant and obnoxious!" We say, "she's a very 'red' personality." We don't say, "Tommy's irresponsible, lazy, and indecisive!" We say with humorous chuckle (as if the chuckle itself removes the critical responsibility from us), "Tommy is just so yellow, isn't he?" It's just so tough to live in a world where you have to Google colors to find out what someone really thinks about you. What will they think of next?

  3. There is nothing wrong with being a red! Besides, I think you have a lot of blue as well :) (Which either means you're well-balanced, or bi-polar...)

  4. So I am a red. I remember the first time I took the test and asked all of my friends what they thought the answers to the questions ought to be because I "just couldn't decide with all of the options.... I was all of those things!" Ironically, that was just me being "blue" and catering to what other people wanted. Of course, the test came out that I was completely "red" (for because I was "blue" and catering in nature, I thought people wanted a leader and wanted someone to take the bull by the horns and I, therefore, complied). It was very nice of me, I must say.

    As time went on, I discovered my "blue" nature. I also learned that having fun is ok and not horribly imbalanced or lazy. My next attempt at the test meant I was "dominantly red and secondary yellow with strong blue influences and not a hint of white." Interesting... Especially since the Color Code mentions that reds and yellows don't get along. This, of course, explained my psychosis of the last couple years!

    Since taking a long hiatus from personality test-taking, I have learned the value of such tests. It helps people to find meaning in some cases. It helps them understand their motivations, their needs, their wants, their strengths and their "areas of opportunity" (aka weaknesses). I think it gives you greater insight into where you shine and where you could shine if you wanted to.

    We are a labeling society and so having a color helps us feel life is more compartmentalized and, therefore, better and safer. What is a diagnosis for mental or physical health, anyway? What would self-help authors or social workers (like me) do if we didn't have labels and titles in the world??? I hope this label of being "red" doesn't cause PTSD symptoms. If it does, I will thank you in advance for helping me have a job as you seek mental health counseling! ;)

    As you can tell, I am verbose. Sorry for the lengthy comment. It's because I am "red" and like logical explanations...

  5. So I was bored and decided to read your older posts, anyways I took a personality test and got red too but mine said "Red because you can be really serious. you're really an amazing person. You're soft hearted... but you can turn. When people make you mad you spaz!! But people know they can come to you when they are having problems." So be proud Red buddy! Be proud! (and it basically nailed my personality..}

  7. Gah. My mother is obsessed with Myers-Briggs and your last paragraph is absolutely accurate. She'll never insult you PERSONALLY, but man will she attack your letters.
