The 12 Days of Christmas

A present suddenly showed up on our front porch on December 1. We opened it, and soon realized that someone was doing the 12 Days of Christmas for us. Gifts anonymously appeared every day for the next week and a half.

There was a twist at the end.

Intermission

Then the 12th day happened and, well, just watch:

He's the best person I've ever met.

  9. You guys are the cutest couple. And both have the best hair.

Now... Getting engaged and telling people is fun. Being married is awesome. Good luck in the seemingling endless hellhole that is wedding planning! Remember you can't make everyone happy, so just make sure the grooms are happy :)

  10. Skylar reached peak gay when his first reaction was to judge his own damn engagement as "well done." These are the facts. Also, it really was well done. :)

    Congratulations!!!

    1. I didn't think he was saying well done about the ring but about the proposal process in general. Which might still be peak gay. But now I need to know - Skylar - what was the "well done" comment in reference to????

  11. Ahhh!!! For the record I was so pissed after the intermission when it was 5 napkin rings instead of an engagement ring, so thank god it still ended in a proposal! Congrats Eli and Skyler!!!

    1. Totally the same reaction here! THANK GOD it ended the way it did! CONGRATS!

  13. Sooooooooo - question everyone wants to know but NONE of us are asking so I'll acknowledge the elephant in the room - we're all invited right? I mean - we're all 17th cousins so of course we're invited . . . . right? Right!?! RIGHT!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    1. CAME HERE FOR THIS.

If we're all not invited, I can't be friends with you anymore.

Also, congratulations! I've never been so invested in a stranger's happiness as I am with yours. You're both the pure good we need in this world, and I'm so glad you've found each other.

    2. You had better book an arena for your wedding! There may be thousands there!

    3. Only if the Suzzzzzzzz plans it. She was supposed to plan our last family reunion.

    4. This is a lie I was never in charge of planning it, I was assigned trash bag duty. You don't want a bitter divorcee planning a wedding, it would look more like a funeral but with better food and more booze.

    5. (Anonymous #2 here)

You guys should at least live stream it so we can all virtually attend!

    6. If we keep joking about this, someone will actually get bored of tv and plan it for real. And people would really come. I’m not volunteering myself for planning purposes, because I just discovered Chinese dramas and it has opened a whole new world of tv to me (and I am almost fluent in Chinese now, too), but I am saying that if this joke stays alive, it will become real, like Pinocchio or something.

    7. If it means I can come to the wedding I will totally plan it for you! All the way from Michigan!

    8. My aunt got married in Vegas (planned and on purpose, haha) and her venue had a live stream so I got to watch it all the way from Hawaii! And that was back in like 2009 which is basically the Stone Age compared to modern technology so there has to be better live streaming wedding technology now...right?! Someone should plan that because we know Eli can’t technology.

  19. I am so happy! Congratulations and, seriously, that was quite the proposal! So well thought out. I was thinking, "dang, they have some friends that are willing to spend quite a bit of money on 12 gifts!" haha! And just like the previous poster said, the wedding planning absolutely needs to be about you two. It truly is a holy hell and you won't please everyone. Just remember to enjoy the day. So are all of us Strangers getting invites???? hee hee!

  20. What a great way to raise my spirits on this Bleh-Wednesday! Congratulations Eli and Skylar! Skylar's reaction is so precious that I'll have to add this video to my list of happy videos whenever I need a happiness boost.

Also, I agree that this was WELL DONE! How were you able to keep it a secret from him?! Were there any close calls that almost ruined the surprise?

    ReplyDelete
  21. So I guess you liked it, so you put a ring on it. Wink wink.

    1. Whenever I hear this I think of the joke, "How do you know Saturn is God's favorite planet?" "He put a ring on it!"

Yes - I'm a dork but you love me anyhow ;)

    2. Oh yes, real dorks of the world unite!!

  33. If you don’t get married at a Strangerville Live, I’ll be so mad.
But also what a great way to ensure I drive from Denver for every freaking Live just so I don’t miss it.

    1. I think we should go halfsies on one of those blocks of wood that says words like faith and hope that they could put on a mantle or hang on the wall

    2. Maybe half of us can go a further halfsies on the snuggies and the other half can go halfsies on those word blocks.

  42. Congratulations! So happy for both of you.

One thing does worry me though... do you even remember your real middle name for the invitations and ceremony?? I know it starts with W...

  43. Congratulations!!! I am so excited for both of you. I too, kept thinking, "wow, they sure do have generous friends." Xoxo ❤️

  44. You know I've heard people complain before that Disney gave them too high of expectations about love in real life, but here you two are blowing Disney out of the water... and subsequently leaving those of us that are still single with increasingly high expectations

  45. Congratulations! What a day brightener in these dark winter days. Also, I’m a high school teacher so I hate everyone & everything until finals are over — except, as it turns out, you two. Mazel tov!

  47. Gretchen in PA chiming in with congratulations and best wishes! Skylar saying "Duncan?" when asked 'who are you marrying' slayed me. So so happy for you both :)

  48. Over the years you've aired your grievances about Christmas. Now, you propose to your boyfriend with...Christmas of all things! Oh, goodness, this is too funny.

  49. Now begins the battle of who will be Eli's Best Man/Woman. Top contenders are Jolyn Metro, Rebecca, Matt, Duncan, and G-Mac. "Many enter the ring...only one will leave! LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!" Man, please stream that online for all of us to watch!

    1. Here's how that would go down:

Matt would immediately forfeit, claiming that he never cared in the first place. Duncan would run out of the ring because it's too crowded and he's severely claustrophobic. G-Mac would demand to the be the bride and would try to have me kicked out of the wedding altogether. Jolyn would release tear gas into the air. And Rebecca would show up a year late with a basket of berries that distracted her on her way to the event, which she planned to pass around, totally unaware that they are poisonous.

Yes. I would like tickets to this.
