Ironman St. George Videos

Daniel and I recorded 7 short videos in St. George in the days leading up to the Ironman, shortly after our disqualifications, and the day after, discussing our experience and attempting to show parts of the course. In two of the videos there are parts with quite a bit of wind or other noise that make it difficult to hear. I apologize for that. In those sections, rest assured that we are talking about The Queen of Colors and The First Eye. I hope you otherwise find them entertaining.

  2. I don't mean to be crass, because what you did was awesome and you did so much prep and everything, but... Are you going to do another "Iron Man" because people think that this race is the definition of being an "Iron Man"m or... Are you going to do it because you told everybody that you were going to do it and now you by definition would be a"Not Iron Man" to millions, or ... Are you wanting to compete in an "Iron Man" event because you want to do it so much that dying would be worth the effort?

    1. Good question. One I've thought a lot about, and one that I'll continue to think about. I feel a sense of "unfinished business" right now. I also really want to know what it feels like to complete an entire Ironman. There may be a few other driving forces.

By the way, thanks for all those poems and sayings you've written.

    2. If you are referring to the "Anonymous" thing, I don't do face book, or know much about anything to do with computers so I have no online name. But I do like to read, and I do like to type, and I have great opinions I don't share enough. So, one of your old TA buddies clued me in to your great blog. Hopefully you are not offended. I just wonder if/when you finish your Iron Man, what is next.

  4. Those calf thingys are shin sleeves for shin splints. They are a godsend! I use them for dance instead of running but they help immensely, and you don't risk losing so much leg skin/hair from taping all of the time.

  5. That last one was the best. Tomorrow when I'm on my 4 mile jog I'm gonna suck it up and run back up the driveway instead of walking! I am a Rubidium Woman.

  6. These were great, as were your previous posts talking about the race experience. You should absolutely be proud of how far you both made it, and I'm impressed you want to try it again. I'll be honest though, I am keeping my fingers crossed that you have another go at it mostly because it will inevitably produce some more widely entertaining blog posts. Sorry for the selfishness, but nothing has made me laugh as hard as your posts about training over the past few months. If you're looking for sponsors, I would throw my support behind you for this reason alone (...er...and wanting to help you reach your goals and all that...).

  9. I'm impressed with your dedication! I signed up for the tough mudder in October. I was having second thoughts but I think I want to complete it in honor of the unfinished business. Good luck on the next race!

  10. I am doing my first triathlon in August, an Olympic distance one. It is also a lake swim so I am participating in some lake swim clinics this summer so that I don't end up lost. Your experience is my WORST nightmare! They are put on by a friend that is a tri-trainer in Salt Lake City. One day I will become an Ironman too :)
