Pictures from my Phone & Weekly Distractions

I left the office tonight and realized that it was 60 degrees outside even though it's February and I'm supposed to be miserable because that's how winter was explained to me when I was a child by Bob and Cathie. I decided to take advantage of it so I sat on a bench in front of the bustling Salt Lake City downtown streets. It took exactly five minutes for a homeless man to touch my face.

SO I GUESS YOU COULD SAY I'M HAVING A PRETTY GOOD NIGHT.

And now, your Pictures and Distractions.
You guys. Somehow I got really brave and let a haircut happen to me THAT I SHOULD HAVE NEVER LET HAPPEN TO ME. And then I ran back to my office, shut the door, and had a full blown panic attack.

HOW AND WHY?!?! I look like a lesbian! NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

I put lights under the cabinets. Island to be installed on Tuesday.

I'm thinking about buying this light fixture for my front room. Discuss.

Oh. And here's Ollie. Sorry it took so long to get to the point.

Crap to distract you from whatever you're supposed to be doing:

Tami's boyfriend. NOT THAT SHE NEEDS A MAN. Thanks, Kendra.

In case you live under a rock and have somehow not seen this, OH MY GOSH SAVED BY THE BELL. Thanks, Brian.

Celebrate Valentine's Day with Trixy. Thanks, Rebecca.

BECAUSE WHAT IF PAUL SIMON. SNL. Thanks, Tyler.

It's time to call Ukraine a war. Thanks, Blaine.

Brutally honest text messages from "crazy Jewish mom." Thanks, Tanner.

Company to experiment with valuing employees. Thanks, Blake.

Some info on Harper Lee's new book that I would buy even if it was a sequel to Twilight.

I mostly found Parenthood annoying because everyone was always screaming at each other, and yet I watched it religiously. Here's something to commemorate the end of the series. Thanks, Anna.

  2. Speaking as a hairstylist, I LOVE that haircut! You look great!

  3. It'll grow back...right? RIGHT????????????????????????

Also, that light fixture is super awesome and fits right into your style! Way to go Eli! You're adulting!

  4. I donated all of my hair last May and it became a boy cut. My father swore when he saw me, my boyfriend said he was "proud of my but sad I ACTUALLY did it" (that ship has sailed THANK GOODNESS), and my mom kept making jokes. I just reached bob-stage, but I made sure to keep it neat and trimmed a LOT. I have roughly one more month of "UGH JUST CUT IT OFF" before it'll look nice... SOON! Anyway, massaging your scalp every night really helps your head feel good, and people tell me it makes the roots grow. I'm not sure about that last bit, though...

But, it's winter! So, cool hats are in! ^.^

    Also, lamp=yes!!!

  5. Well on the plus side, the office plant placement in the first photo makes it look like you have an AMAZING leafy fro!!

    1. Also, I can vouch for the rumor that prenatal vitamins help your hair grow faster. I'm sure they'd do the same for you even though you aren't biologically capable of gestating a fetus!

    2. I also thought the plant behind you was part of the haircut, until I got to the second angle.

  6. Does Matt read this???? Does he know you just took credit for installing lights under your cabinets???? Am I the only one who does not believe for a moment that you did that all by yourself?
Also: Please buy that light. It's perfect for your house.
Also: I think the haircut would look better if not hi-lighted by the plant that is clearly mocking you in the backround.....

  7. Definitely Get the light fixture for your front room! But what I need to know... Where did you get the light fixture in your kitchen?!?! I need to own it!
    BTW- You're hair is fabulous!

  8. No, on the hair. No, on the light. I had a light like that in High School. :) :)

  9. The top of the hair still says "Disney Prince" but the sides now say "I'm super edgy." So you're an edgy Disney Prince.

  10. Does it ever boggle your mind that a few years ago you were struggling to purchase fresh produce in Palau and now your quandary is choosing from beautifu light fixtures? Sometimes all the choices we have seem unbelievable.

    1. It's so funny you mention this. I just had that conversation with a friend this week about bow ties. It absolutely does boggle my mind. I hope not to lose that perspective and to remain grateful for the bounty. I still get overwhelmed every once in a while when I walk through the produce sections of our grocery stores.

  11. Admit it, you requested the "Brad Pitt in Fury" haircut. By the way, do you loan Matt out? I have a lot of half finished, screwed up projects, but I have no Matt.

    1. Totally. You just have to promise to feed him and tell him he's pretty.

  12. So many things.

    1. Bless your heart with the haircut. I didn't like it on Craig Ferguson either and I adore him almost as much as I adore you. It'll get better.
    2. But the sexy slightly unbuttoned shirt is good. Keep that.
    3. When you said "I" "put" "lights" under the cabinet, I feel like that's code for something else. Would Matt agree with that statement as you wrote it?
    4. Hi Ollie!

    1. Ok, ok. I did those lights myself. But it was super easy. They required absolutely no electrical work. They didn't even come with instructions. I save the dangerous work for Matt.

Ollie says hi back and is wondering why you never call anymore.

      Delete
    2. Because he changed his number and told the officers I was calling too much and had a "restraining order" put out on me! I was trying to take the hint.

    3. Maybe I have this wrong since I'm from Canada and not from the southern U.S but is it true that "bless your heart" actually means something not quite so sweet?
I like the plant-fro but have to agree with the hair assessment. But don't worry cause hair is always growing!

    4. Oh, and I love the light fixture.

    5. Wendi, sometimes "bless your heart" can be followed by something not so sweet for example someone might be talking about someone else and say "bless her heart but she dresses like a hooker". But the actual statement isn't mean.

  13. Eli - I adore reading your blog but for the sake of all that is good in this world - don't post anymore pictures of yourself until your perfect hair is back!

Buy the light though - if you decide it doesn't work for you - ship it to me - I'm positive I can find an appropriate place for it in my house.

  14. Eli, haven't you previously talked about your lamp problem? I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you don't need another one.

The hair looks good, but you're right, the undercut does make you look like a lesbian, not that there's anything wrong with that!

    1. It's not a lamp though. It's an overhead light fixture to replace the light fixture I currently have in there, which looks like a boob. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

  15. I don't know what all the fuss is about. I like the hair cut. It makes you look slick and as a lawyer isn't that something you aspire to anyway ;) (I really do like the hair cut)

  16. I can see your ENTIRE chesticle crack and now everything is ruined!

  17. The haircut is totally channeling Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders....seriously Google it. Next thing we know you are going to be running an underground betting operation, chain smoking, and wearing suspenders with old timey pants that weirdly cup your man parts. It's definitely a look very few people can pull off but I look forward to seeing your transformation.

  18. You could make a better choice on the light. Someone is going to come to your house and say, "Oh, I saw that light at Lowe's" and you're going to wish you had bought something more unique.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Love the light. Go for it.

Actually kind of digging the haircut. They did go a bit too short--it probably should have faded a bit instead of being so abrupt on the sides of the top--but the pompadour is still in (though likely on its way out, tbh) and within a week or so it'll look just right. Also on the plus side: don't have to navigate a part in your hair for a while.

    1. Amen to that! I get what they were trying to do, but not quite right I wish I could post a picture of a cut I did on a guy recently. The fade is what you need. LOVE the light and Ollie is the best.

  20. That is an awful lot of skin for someone wearing what you wear/wore. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. ^^^Anonymous: putting a winking smiley face after that comment doesn't make it any less judge-y. Eli: the haircut isn't totally bad, and actually reminds me of Sam Smith. Can you sing a little for us, for the sake of comparison? Speaking of comparison, am I the only one curious about the boob lamp? Can you take a picture of that so we can compare it and the new lamp option?

  22. Okay, what is with the two rugs in the kitchen. I understand the one at the sink because WATER HAZZARD, but what about the stove? Shouldn't that actually be in front of the refridgerator so that your toes don't get cold while you stand there trying to decide if you have enough cheese?

  23. Don't you mean lights MATT installed in your kitchen? I think you're trying to pull a fast one on us.

  25. I honestly thought "He looks like Macklemore" when I saw the haircut picture.

  26. please no on the lamp! It reminds me of tacky german interior stores. I LOVE your kitchen though, excellent work on the lights. Also, was it coincidence that Olly just HAPPENED to match the rest of your kitchen?

  27. with a tiny bit of a fade, i would love the haircut! and no to the lamp. keep looking my friend.

  28. BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAahahahahaaa....oooooh yeah, thanks I needed that. I'm guessing that haircut was for my benefit since I really needed a laugh after my wife PHYSICALLY PULLED ME away from Mexico to come back to this cruddy snow filled hole. Yes it looks bad, but that's because most of us hate change and are used to you looking like you did before. So the laughs will come from some of us...mostly me...but if you like it, then who cares, and if you don't, hair grows back. Also, as others have already mentioned, that plant behind you totally looks like it's part of your haircut in that first picture, which makes it even more hilarious.

Good job with the do it yourself sticky lights you put under the cabinets. They look good in the picture.

I like the lamp, but I'd have to see a picture of where you're putting it before I can give my opinion. Make sure to always include those next time you want our input. It'll help.

So yeah...if anyone wants to donate money to me to send me back to Mexico until this snowy crap melts, I'll give you my address you can send money to, cause that resort was great.

  29. I don't know why someone would NOT be a fan of your haircut. It looks very handsome, in my opinion. Does it help you to know that this is a very fashionable style in Korea at the moment?

  30. I got a hair cut a couple of months ago that I HATE!!! I went home and cried as soon as I saw my husband. Your hair cut looks much better ;)

  31. I absolutely love the haircut I can't believe people are saying it's not for you! But...come to think of it, I am a lesbian so maybe that contributes a tiiiiinny bit
