Pictures from my Phone & Weekly Distractions

Today after I left the office I went to the gym to swim. As I often do, when I exited the pool, I entered the steam room for some light stretching. The steam room has two rows of tiled benches, so I went to the top row, extended my legs, and started doing the good ol' fashioned sit and reach. Then, while still sitting in such a position, I turned my upper body to stretch out my lower back. Imagine sitting on the ground and trying to turn to look behind you. That's what I was doing. Just that. A very simple thing to do.

I don't know if it was because I was still dizzy from swimming or if I'm really just this uncoordinated, but when I turned my body this way and tried to put one of my arms behind me for support, I completely lost balance. And I fell. I fell off of the top row and slid, while spinning, through the middle row, and landed on my back and on the floor.

There were four other people in the steam room.

And now, your Pictures and Distractions:
Roses from my yard.

My apparently crafty friend, Troy, supplied the water bottles for my "surprise" birthday party.

The Bosnian painting makes its new home in my living room.

  1. Did you not notice that Paul Simon was also (apparently) at your race?

    1. Paul Simon is everywhere. It was sort of unnecessary to point him out.

    2. You ran right by him and didn't even wave. Tsk Tsk.

    3. When someone is everywhere it is literally impossible to run by him.

    4. Eli, you just blew my mind :)

  2. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I'm not sure that picture is totally legit...I just don't think Oprah would use comic sans!

  3. You recently had some heart/chest issues, and now you mentioned being dizzy after swimming. It may have just been being overtired, but you're awfully fit and young for you to lose your balance that way. Are you sure you're physically okay? No inner ear issues or something?

    1. Yes. This ^^^^. Also, where did you buy that beautiful vase?

    2. I WON that vase at a very competitive decathlon at my friend Cheryl's house in 2011, a week after I finished law school. This involved such activities as jumping on a trampoline and designing an outfit for a Barbie using only items found in a mystery box. Needless to say, I'm very proud of this vase. I treat it much like the dad treated the leg lamp in A Christmas Story.

As for my health, I think we all good in the hood.

  4. Ok, Eli...the important question is...did you land on said steam room floor NAKED...scaring four people half to death?

  5. Love the painting. The OCD in me Needs to tell you that it is neither centered on the table nor between the lamps.

    1. I maybe thought this as well and figured someone would mention. Sorry Eli!

    2. I noticed as well, but I was hoping someone else would point it out. Symmetry is a big OCD thing for me. I love the painting and the table though!

    3. I noticed that as well, but thought maybe he did that on purpose.

    4. Not only that, but the lamps aren't the same spacing away from the edge of the table on either side. One lamp is closer to the edge then the other. THIS IS JUST SLOPPY HOUSE DECORATING ELI! What kind of monster are you!!?!?

  7. Oh btw, I meant to say how nice your house looks. That credenza looks great with your new picture hanging above it.

  8. Eli. You're *31* now. Obviously, old age has caught up with you and slammed you to the floor of the steam room.

You knew it was only a matter of time.

Now if puberty will just catch up with you, you'll be all set.

  9. P.S. When you take up painting in your dotage, possibly next week, that first picture will make an excellent still life.
