Crime & Punishment

I have spent my weekend in home improvement hell and I need to tell you every single detail but right now I don't have time and at least 12 of my fingers are currently bleeding so I'm basically typing this all out with my nose which is unfortunate because I only type like four words a minute with my nose and that's only if they're short words and tomorrow is the eclipse which I accidentally referred to last week in a work meeting as the "apocalypse" and I didn't realize that I had done that until two days later when I was reliving the meeting because that's what you do when you have anxiety and now I'm wondering why nobody corrected me because it means that either they think I'm a crazy doomsdayer or they're all crazy doomsdayers or maybe nobody was listening to me and I don't know which of those is worse.

The point is, we have a new Strangerville episode and I'm tired and my fingers are bleeding and I just need you to listen to it. So do me a major solid and click on the little triangle play button below and tell me how sexy my voice is with its hair pushed back.

We love Strangerville. We love you. We love doing this. We love snuggies. And we love this episode. Please enjoy it. And I'm supposed to ask you to please become a Strangerville Patron.

This time in Strangerville we explore stories about crime and punishment and how those two things don't always align. A mother mostly fails in her efforts to teach her six-year-old that stealing is wrong. A little boy's parents take things a little too far as they try to teach him a lesson. A drug-dealing teenager's luck runs out. And a man becomes a detective in search for his stolen bike. Please join us in the land where Strangers really do have the best candy.

Intro: By Eli McCann

No. I don't care how many extra fingers you have. Or how many of them are bleeding. You will not put this English teacher through the hell of reading that run-on sentence. No. You will not!

    1. Run-on sentences are my only form of exercise anymore.

    2. LOL! This is precisely why I love Strangerville so much! (My condolences to Angela for all the run-on sentences that you have to read. I'm pretty sure I am still one of those kids based on the evidence that I did not notice the run-on until you pointed it out.)

  4. Someone asked me if I was excited about the eclipse and I think I scared them when I responded with "Three minutes of darkness? Big deal, try living with my ex-husband for 5 years." Making people profoundly uncomfortable with dark humor IS my superpower.

  5. You were a little monster child. I'm glad you developed the ability to tell a story because now we get to enjoy the horrors you inflicted on Bob and Cathie.

  7. I'm starting to think you're putting in Mean Girls quotes just for me. It's very flattering, but I'm married.

    1. Meg, Taia is a regular follower of your writing and podcasts. She invited me to listen to the "Bread and Water" episode featuring my two rapscallion kid brothers and recounted by your papa. How fun! The incident having found its place in canonized family lore, I smiled and chuckled once again at the retelling. Meg, you certainly have a gift and we all benefit from it. Thank you. By the way, can you tell me the title of the Spanish sounding fanfares interspersed in the piece? I will need to pay more attention to your work from now on. Keep having fun.

  9. Okay, can we talk about Rob Anderson? He thinks his punishment of ONLY ten days in jail and 1,000 hours of common service FOR STEALING PILLS AND BEING A DRUG DEALER was to harsh? I almost couldn't finish listening to him. *facepalm

    1. Agreed. I actually thought he got off really easy.

    2. To be fair, I think he meant that he couldn't believe how bad the punishment was then but he concedes today that "it did what it needed to do" because it got him on the right track.

  10. I love every one of your Mean Girls references and your voice really should wear its hair like that more often, because it looks sexy with it pushed back like that. Shut up!
