Brownies From Scratch

I have severe writer's block right now. I just finished a new article for The Beehive that will be published this week, so I think I may have drained all of my creative juice through that. Or I used all of it trying to talk Skylar out of using a very large power saw to cut into my kitchen cabinets for some organizational project he's all up on today.

Yes, MY, by the way. It can become "ours" when he starts doing some of the cooking.

I'm being completely unfair with the prior sentence, by the way. I like cooking--I generally find it therapeutic, but especially lately. Skylar doesn't like cooking. So I have insisted on doing all of it, but then whenever it benefits me, I shout at him "I guess you don't appreciate how long I stood over that hot stove for you last night!"

Speaking of hot stoves, last Sunday I made brownies from scratch but I was too lazy to look up a recipe so I just guessed. I recorded an Instagram story to document the experience:

I thought they turned out quite tasty, even if they were greeted by an otherwise unenthusiastic audience. Whatever. More for me. I ate nearly the entire pan on my own. I'm just now realizing why my husband of the same height as me weighs a full 45 pounds less.

Anyway, please enjoy some Strangerville:

This time in Strangerville, Eli is terrified of the dentist, Meg can’t do second grade math, and a flight attendant talks about how dramatically his life has changed amid COVID-19 restrictions.
Segment:
Flight Attendant, by Tyler Wood
Production by Eli McCann, Meg Walter, and Jolyn Metro

  1. Isn't that what you're supposed to do during quarantine? Overeat all the junk food?

Last week I made myself some chocolate ice cream & ate a half gallon within 3 days (by myself of course). The following day I proceeded to make another batch...

  2. I think you should set up a row of chairs in your house and just let people watch you and Skylar interact with each other. It is just as entertaining as actual live theatre!

  3. 1) You definitely bake like Mary Berry
    2) “and MASHED POTATOES from dinner!” Killed me 😂
    3) I made brownies from a box of chocolate cake mix last week. Or maybe the week before?? Because I discovered 4 boxes of just-barely-expired cake mix when quarantine started, but I wanted brownies. I was shocked that it worked decently well!

  4. I've been making weekly double-batches of druken gummies (not that we know what drunk is Cathie!) - and consuming them entirely by myself. Literally - they're the only reason I sleep at night right now.
