TrAnSpOrTeD back into my childhood!
For years I have wanted to make the best possible recipe for mac and cheese and I have searched and searched and it has been so difficult to find the PERFECT recipe for mac and cheese but I finally found it!
Seriously you guys this recipe is SO good. You will never make mac and cheese any other way ever ever again. I made this mac and cheese recipe for my husband and he usually doesn't like mac and cheese that much but he COULD NOT BELIEVE how good this recipe of mac and cheese is.
Ever since making this recipe of mac and cheese for my husband he asks me like EVERY SINGLE DAY to make it for him because he loves this mac and cheese soooooooooooooo much.
My husband loves eating it all the time because my husband now loves mac and cheese and he has told me repeatedly that if we ever got divorced he would probably fight me for custody of my mac and cheese LOL HE'S SO FUNNY.
But seriously, my husband loves my mac and cheese so much.
You know who else loves this mac and cheese? My neighbors. Yup. Recently there was a neighborhood potluck party and
I was asked to bring something so I RACKED my brain over this and finally I came up with the perfect solution. MAC AND CHEESE. Because seriously you guys, this recipe is like SO good. My husband LOVES this recipe. You should see him eating it. He loves it SO much. Here are several really bad photos of him eating it!
And when I made it for the neighbors THEY COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW GOOD IT WAS. Everyone wanted to have the recipe. So that's why I decided that I would share that recipe with you.
My husband absolutely thinks I should share this recipe BECAUSE HE LOVES THIS MAC AND CHEESE.
I know that you googled "mac and cheese recipe" and you are standing in your kitchen, hoping to be able to quickly identify step-by-step instructions so you can hurry and make your mac and cheese and you are not even remotely interested in the origin story of this particular recipe or the second- and third-hand reviews given by my neighbors AND MY HUSBAND, but I'm going to give you a few more paragraphs of this before we get down to the only part of this entire post in which you have even the faintest interest.
Have I mentioned that this recipe is so easy too! It's an easy recipe! Even my kids love making it! Here's a picture of my son who LoVeS to help out in the kitchen! It's seriously his passion!

Also, there is a vegan version of this recipe. All you have to do is make the below recipe but replace all of the ingredients with vegan options.

When I first started learning to cook, I wanted to learn how to make the BEST mac and cheese.
So here's the recipe!
Oh wait, I forgot to mention that my husband LOVES eating this mac and cheese for lunch. He is always taking it to work and then eating it in the middle of the day. But my husband also loves eating this mac and cheese for dinner too.
MY HUSBAND LOVES EATING IT FOR EVERY MEAL.
My husband is real.
Anyway, so here's the recipe:
For this recipe you will need a pan, some water, a box of Western Family Mac n' Cheese, some milk, some butter, and an appetite!
1. Open the box of Western Family Mac n' Cheese.
2. Boil the noodles.
3. Drain the water.
4. Mix in the cheese powder.
5. Add some butter and milk.
6. EAT IT!
That's seriously it! You just have to do those things.
If you decide to make it, make sure to save some FOR MY HUSBAND!!!
~It Just Gets Stranger
You forgot the part where in order to get the entire recipe you have to press "see entire recipe" and then you accidentally click on one of the thousands of ads on the page. And when you finally exit the horrid ad you have to scroll to the VERY bottom again. And instead of getting to the recipe you accidentally scroll too far into the endless amounts of comments about THE BEST MAC AND CHEESE EVER. And then you give up.

ReplyDeleteDo you think I could make it with Parmesan? I don't like cheese powder, but I have a big case of Parmesan from Costco. What do you think the substitution ratio would be? Also, do you think it would be good with Sriracha on it? I just ask, because I tried it with Sriracha and was too spicy for my tastes. I recommend using half the Sriracha I used.

DeleteThis is one of my biggest pet peeves!! I was looking at a crockpot recipe book in Costco the other day and my daughter said “ Can’t you just get all those recipes on Pinterest??” And I was like “Yes. I could,but it’s worth it to me to pay $12.99 not to have to scroll through all of those dumb stories about the dumb recipe before you actually get to how to make it!!” Who has time to write their life story every time they share a recipe? And you’re so right Hilary about clicking on the ads by accident most of the time. That usually makes me so frustrated that I just give up and tell the kids and my HUSBAND we are having cereal for dinner.

And the chopped onions with the giant knife and artesanal bamboo cutting board with the caption “oops this picture is for my next recipe post! Lolz!” That’s what drives my husband nuts when he sees me trying to make a recipe from one of those blogs. “Why do you have to scroll for days past pictures of ingredients?!” Super annoying too bc I usually do it on my phone which goes to sleep in between each part and my hands are always wet and why don’t I just use cookbooks?! But after seeing it really was Stranger, I knew to just roll with it. AR

DeleteThe changes I made are as follows:
Ingredients
8 ounces uncooked elbow macaroni
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
3 cups milk
1/4 cup butter
2 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 pinch paprika
Directions
Cook macaroni according to the package directions. Drain.
In a saucepan, melt butter or margarine over medium heat. Stir in enough flour to make a roux. Add milk to roux slowly, stirring constantly. Stir in cheeses, and cook over low heat until cheese is melted and the sauce is a little thick. Put macaroni in large casserole dish, and pour sauce over macaroni. Stir well.
Melt butter or margarine in a skillet over medium heat. Add breadcrumbs and brown. Spread over the macaroni and cheese to cover. Sprinkle with a little paprika.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Serve.

ReplyDeleteI don't know what you guys are talking about. This recipe was so terrible. Didn't taste like cheese and was so runny!
ReplyDeleteI did make a few changes. I'm trying to cut back on carbs so I only added half the pasta. I was also out of butter so I added EVOO. I miiiigggghhht have added a little more of that than needed. I also subbed coconut milk and added just a touch of pure maple syrup to cut the acidity.
It was a greasy sweet mess, my husband (who usually loves my cooking) agreed, we don't know what you guys are talking about. This recipe was the worst! Try going to www.othercookingblog.com for a way better recipe!
This is the worst thing, haha. I talk about how ridiculous these people are to my husband pretty much any time I look up a recipe online.

ReplyDeleteThis makes me laugh so much because my husband made Kraft Mac and Cheese a couple of weekends ago for my son and his friend and his friend went ON AND ON AND ON about how GREAT the Mac and Cheese was and about how his mom needed to get some of that stuff. This continued the rest of the time he was at our house and in the car on our way to drop him off at home.

I told her to tell him it's a special thing he gets at our house only.

DeleteGrowing up we never ever EVER ordered pizza from Pizza Hut, Dominoes, etc, but I had a friend whose family ordered pizza every Friday night. So when we would suggest which house we wanted to meet at on Friday, I wanted to go to her house and she wanted to come to my house.

ReplyDeleteI made this recipe and it was sooooo gooooood. Except I used Velveeta Shells & Cheese. And I added some spices. And I cooked it in my Instantpot®. And then I froze it and took it out a month later and heated it up in the microwave. But it was this exact recipe and I give it Five Stars!

I once read a recipe "comment" that asked the recipe poster to change literally EVERY SINGLE INGREDIENT in the recipe to some weird item that the commenter appeared to think would be healthier and then "let me know how it turns out". I mean, seriously? The poster just told you their recipe was the best thing since sliced bread and you expect them to spend days mangling it with dry chia seed husks and essential oils trying to recreate the flavor and texture when they know you are probably never even going to make it anyway?

I have noticed that she usually doesn't have ads in the middle of the recipe and most of the time gets right to the point instead of going on and on about her "husband' or why she made that particular dish.

I made it last night, only I added chicken, and I substituted wine for the cheese because I’m lactose intolerant, and I used vegetables instead of pasta, and I picked up a lean cuisine instead of the western family box mac n cheese because I couldn’t find that in my grocery store, and this was seriously the best mac n cheese I’ve ever had! This is my go-to recipe now!

I had to quadruple the recipe for MY neighborhood potluck and then run home and make two more batches because they wanted more! You need to get the organic grass fed gluten free sulphate free low sodium low fat artisanal hot hot dogs. Cut them into exactly 1/3" pieces and stir them into the mac n cheese exactly 35 seconds after mixing in the cheese powder and exactly 25 seconds before mixing in the milk and butter. Then top the whole thing with crushed ritz crackers and a sprig of organic locally sourced parsley. I like to serve mine in hand thrown clay bowls made at our local art coop by a blind potter who lives only for his art. It really just makes it so much more OTHER.
