Pictures from my Phone & Weekly Distractions

We are so very overdue for a Pictures & Distractions post and I have some fun stuff to share with you. So here it is.

Matt turned 40. The birthday bash wasn't quite as big as we had planned, but, you know. Pandemic.

Duncan and Jude.

A little morning hike with Anna and Emma.

Crap to distract you from whatever you're supposed to be doing:

I'm super proud of this thing I wrote about being a Boy Scout in the 90s. Please do me a solid and check it out (and share it).

A great little article on Yahoo! News about a prank someone pulled on me and Skylar at our wedding.

Sorry to make this the Eli show today, but I can't remember if I shared this recap I recently wrote of a truly cringe-worthy BYU film from the 60s about dating.

And while we're at it, we'd love to have you subscribe to The Beehive newsletter that Meg and I send out once a week with links to stuff we've written and info about Strangerville. It takes two seconds to subscribe.

Just started my second year as a law professor and I'm seriously considering buying these. Thanks, @Swilua.

I have watched this video 6,000 times this year (some language). Thanks, Jay Nedaj:

And God Created Millennial Earth. Thanks, Gaby.

If you'd like to have something included on Pictures & Distractions please email me at itjustgetsstranger@gmail.com and I swear I'll try to do this more often.

  1. And God Created Millennial Earth is one of the best things I have ever read on the internet (second only to your writings - PS I loved the Boy Scout piece - I was a SUPER STAR scouting leader for 10 years in my ward) so thank you for sharing that with us!!!! Now I'm off to look up some of the millennial abbreviations that I, as a middle aged cisgender woman, do not quite understand. Or I could ask my 19 year old daughter but she's too busy sleeping all day to be bothered.

  2. I, a millennial adult, read And God Created Millennial Earth out loud to my mom who said it was so much funnier listening to me read it than it would have been to read it herself.

  3. I cannot get over how hilarious it is that Yahoo of all things wrote an article about you. It's like your life has come full circle.

Also the boy scout article is so so so good. I was laughing my butt off through the entire thing and then got teary-eyed at the end. What a beautiful tribute to your mom.

  4. Loved your article. Thank you Son. I believe your achievement in scouting was a group affair. My happiest moment was taking the picture of you, your merit awards etc. which you posted here with your article. You had to have been the cutest little 13 year old Eagle Scout on the planet ever! I was then and always will be one proud mama.

    XOXOXO Mom

  5. I barely survived reading the millennial creation story, so obviously I made my 15-year-old read it next. Nothing has ever harmed that child's soul so completely. They squirmed and cringed and basically turned inside out and died of discomfort. Thanks, I hate it!

In other news, the pants you want are half priced because they're half pants, and that seems very reasonable to me. Buy them immediately.

  6. Those pants are amazing. Perfect for when the weather is unpredictable. Even if one leg is cold, at least the other is warm.

  7. Oh, and I think that line is “that little girl is ready.” Not breaded. I had to watch to see if it was as awful as you described. It was even worse than what I was expecting. And that may make the line even worse. So creepy.
