Best/Worst Movies Ever

This weekend I was unfortunately subjected to a movie called "Pitch Perfect." It's basically Glee, the movie. What's more, I had to watch it with friends while there was German fighting in the background. And the occasional interruption for, "can I please ask you for vone small more favors?" Which was NEVER followed by the asking of simply vone small more favors.

But I thought it was time for our collective wisdom to create a best and worst movies ever list. I'll start it, you add to it in the comments. I had an especially hard time thinking of movies for the worst list. I guess I'm in a positive mood today.

  1. I feel like there needs to be a third category for movies that are so bad they're almost good, in a nostalgic kind of way. The Best Worst Movies Ever, I guess? Fern Gully would totally be #1 on that list.

    1. Haha, Fern Gully is the best, most annoying movie ever!! My sister still sings "red wires, green wires" Lol

    2. Oh, I loved that movie as a kid! I recent bought it at a yardsale on VHS and was horrified to watch it as an adult - so much propoganda!! Definately the best worst movie ever.

  2. agree with Rach re movies so bad they're good. My contributions to that list would be Miami Connection and Open Fire.

What's with the John Marsden Hate? Tomorrow has a special place in my heart, so I will have to disagree with that.

My best movie is Return to Oz. Get rid of that singing garbage!

    1. no worries, he's not hating on John Marsden. The day after tomorrow is a movie about the catastrophic end of the world - we plumit into a new ice age. The John Marsden Tomorrow series is AWESOME (and I'm from the US!!)

  3. The Pianist for best movie ever. For worst, I don't know. I don't ever watch movies but my little sister forced me to watch part of an episode of Glee and they were singing in Spanish. That has got to be worst something. Oh I know. Worst movie ever: High school musical... ugh.

My nomination for worst movies....shoot they are always so bad, I instantly forget their title, but for sure any of the Scary Movies.
Best movies: Pearl Harbor, The Recruit, The Polar Express, The Blind Side

    -.-.-.-.- Dr. V

    ReplyDelete
  6. Best: The Princess Bride....Duh, people.
Worst: Hmmm, maybe any of the Final Destination movies or Crossroads. That's Crossroads with Britney Spears, not Crossroads with Ralph Macchio, that movie is amazing.
    Best: Crossroads (Macchio style)

  7. So glad Princess Bride has been mentioned. It is CLEARLY the best (of like all time).

Other good ones: Monty Python's Holy Grail, Midnight in Paris, Hugo

I too cannot think of bad ones right now...I think we just kind of block them out. Word to the wise: whenever On The Road bothers to come out, don't see it. It was not good.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm so happy 'Waiting for Guffman' is at the top of your Best list. LOVE that movie!

    ReplyDelete
  17. You've Got Mail! I thought I was the only person who liked that movie! Bouquets of sharpened pencils!

But you must be mistaken about Joyful Noise. Worst movie ever? It has Dolly Parton, so you pretty much can't go wrong. I'm not saying it's the best, but it's certainly not the worst. You must be confusing it with Beauty Shop. You know, Queen Latifah's answer to Barber Shop. It's sassy! Also the reason that I'm now blind.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Best: Star wars 4-6 Trilogy
    Worst: Star wars 1-3 tragedy

    ReplyDelete
    Replies

      Delete
  27. Has no one seen Manos Hands of Fate or Plan 9 From Outer Space? Or Mortal Combat? Or The Never Ending Story? Or Roller Boogie? Maybe we need to narrow it down to a certain decade or something. Can't argue with Princess Bride for the top picks though. If we're going to get into the oldies but goodies category, don't forget The Philadelphia Story and Charade.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My vote for "so bad, it's almost good", Grease 2. I actually enjoy torturing various family members with this didn't need a sequel, sequel gem, that is while secretly crushing on the main character "Michael" (Maxwell Caulfield). I just momentarily forget he played such a skeeze on Empire Records. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Best ever: Just Married
    Worst everest: Drowning Mona

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I LOVE Drowning Mona! But I think it might fall into the "so bad it's good" category. Not Bette Midler's best work, but the supporting characters are AWESOME! I mean, c'mon, Jamie Lee Curtis with a MULLET?

      Delete
  32. Moonrise Kingdom was really good.
Also I Love Stardust. I watch in anytime I get in a non happy mood, and it makes me all happy again. Best line: "It's all right, Captain. We always knew you were a whoopsie"
Also I agree with whats up doc, So Good, "I'm not repeating myself. I'm not repeating myself. Oh, God, I'm repeating myself."
I also love Whip It, Really good. Mr Dungbeetle.
Worst Movie, Anything with Nicolas Cage (except for National Treasure, maybe). I don't think he can act at all. As well as James Franco. YUCK!!!

  36. No votes for West Side Story yet? Definitely best movie of all time. Also, another shout out for What's Up Doc? UHF (can go in the so bad it's good category). Worst: Xanadu, Mars Attacks (why do I even remember seeing that movie!? Gah!)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh, UHF! My parents gave us all spatula's for Christmas the year we saw that. :)

      Delete
    2. Xanadu belongs on the so bad its good list.

      Delete
    3. No, I'm sorry, West Side Story would absolutely make the list of one of the WORST films of all time! A bunch of "gangsters" having a dance-off and snapping at each other? Are you kidding me? Quite literally one of the gayest things I've ever seen in cinema history. Not saying I have anything against gay people, but I just don't associate street gangs with a bunch of homosexuals so that was kind of awkward to watch. The movie all around is absolutely terrible in every way.

      Delete
  37. Another vote for Waking Ned Divine, my favorite movie ever. Also Little Miss Sunshine and Sunshine Cleaning. Which are all humorous movies about death, what is wrong with me... Worst, also second the vote for Crossroads with Britney Spears and of recent movies Taken 2 was quite terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Romantics Anonymous. It's in french and sweet and funny and about chocolate making! Does it get better. I watched it with a boy who liked it too.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
Goonies (I CAN'T believe no one has mentioned this one yet)
    The Sandlot
    300
    all the Harry Potter movies
    Nanny McPhee (so cute!)
    P.S. I Love You
...and so many others you already listed

I don't really have a worst movies list, I think I usually just fall asleep while watching and then block them from memory...

    Best Worst Movies -
    Dumb and Dumber
    Napolean Dynamite

    1. I was making my way to the end of the comments to add Goonies. Glad someone mentioned it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. For best movie ever, I nominate Totoro.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Considering how many people who read this hilarious blog must share my sense of humour, I'm surprised no one has suggested this BEST/WORST movie.

"The Room," starring, written, and directed by Tommy Wiseau really can't be missed. In an attempt to encapsulate every aspect of a great American drama, Wiseau falls short. Completely face plants. The film is packed with serious issues: infidelity, drugs, disease, betrayal and sociopaths. However, it's also packed with the most laughs you'll have all year.

Perhaps it's Wiseau's foreign accent and dimpled bottom in his sex scenes. He also seemed to have gone out of his way to find the worst actors on the planet. You can't TRY to make a movie this bad, it just happens. Luckily for Wiseau, it's so bad, it's brilliant.

I INSIST you check it out.

    Here's a little taste: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCj8sPCWfUw

  43. Worst movie:
    Mean Girls
Bring It on (again and again and again--all fifty movies of crazy teenage cheerleading girls and their teenage angst)
    Twilight trilogy, anyone?
    Hunger Games

    Best:
    Sandlot
    Duck Soup
    Ferris Bueller's Day Off

    Pride and Prejudice
    The Importance of Being Earnest
    Cold Comfort Farm

  46. If any of you DO check out "The Room," take note that the actor who plays the psychologist friend actually CHANGES throughout the movie. They just tossed some new guy into the role and expect you not to notice.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If you like What's Up Doc (which is hilarious, btw) you HAVE to see Oscar with Sylvester Stallone. I can quote this movie beginning to end and I tell people we can't be best friends until they have seen it, at least once. That goes for you too Eli. Do it. This is it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102603/

  48. Haha....as I was clicking over here from FB, I was thinking of my faves, and Pitch Perfect is at the top of my list right now...I can't get enough! Then when I read your post, I just had to laugh!

Also, Enchanted, Princess Bride, Pretty Woman, Overboard, Noises Off.

i am sam and The Other Sister make me bawl my eyes out!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Are you serious?! Pitch Perfect is quite literally the worst movie ever made. It's a total pile of crap. Maybe if you're the girlies girl ever or the gayest man alive, that would be what you consider good filmmaking, but if so, please educate yourself on what a good movie actually looks like. Wow.

Best: O Brother, Where Art Thou

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm so glad someone mentioned the Bourne trilogy. Those are three of my favorite movies of all time. Eli, I have really bad news for you. I love your blog, and I always can identify with what you're writing, but I can't endorse this list of movies. I love some that are on the worst list, and I hate some that are on the best list. But that's ok. I'll continue to read your blog. And I'll, most likely, still enjoy it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Juno definitely needs to be on the best ever list. Also on the best: Away We Go, Little Miss Sunshine, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

    The WORST: In Time.

  58. The newest Les Mis for best. One of the worst would be the newest Bourne with Jeremy Renner, so boring. It made my four hour flight feel like eight.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Les Mis was AWESOME you are soooooo right, I agree with everything you said

      Delete
    2. Again, I'm sorry, but first of all it's Les Miserables, not some cutesy "Les Mis" nonsense. You thought BOURNE was boring but you LIKED Les Miserables? You're kidding, right? I have never been so bored during a movie. If I could rate a film BELOW 0 stars I would definitely do it to that film. It was hands down the most boring movie ever made and one of the worst. It was terrible in every respect, in every way that a movie can be terrible. I actually took the screener DVD I got and snapped it in half after watching that pile of crap.

    Dragonheart
Any number in a series after 3. Just let it die.

    1. Yes, Waterworld. It really was a big dud. I tend to forget the names of really bad movies, but I do agree with those people who don't like anything with Will Ferrell, Angelina Jolie or Adam Sandler (except The Wedding Singer). The Princess Bride is my all-time favorite movie.

  65. Journey to Promethea is the worst Movie ever.. the cover on netflix looks good but it a horrible movie..

  66. I am so glad you've seen Troll 2. My friend introduced it to me by saying, "I am going to force you to watch this movie called Troll 2. Before you ask, there is no first one. Also, it's about goblins. Not trolls."
I learned a valuable lesson about hospitality that day.

    1. Yes, you're right, the Oscar-winning LOTR films and Star Wars movies -- the best films ever made -- are "the worst movies." Do you have any taste in film at all? Do you even know what a good movie looks like? Apparently not. Nacho Libre is better than Star Wars or Lord of the Rings?! HAHAHA oh my god, seriously, learn what good filmmaking is about, please, for everyone's sake.

Also, another vote for Ned Divine.

    ReplyDelete
  71. The Happening....The Happening is the WORST movie ever, I say this with venomous intent for it not only stole 91 minutes of my life but also $14 from me (SPOILER ALERT--not that it really matters because this is a truly awful move) to watch people commit suicide because the plants made them do it....

    ReplyDelete
  72. I love What's Up Doc! Funny Girl is also a good Streisand flick. Have you seen the Imitation of Life?

    ReplyDelete
  73. I am so glad that you agree with me that Pitch Perfect is one of the worst movies ever. I recently moved to England and the girls I'm living with have watched Pitch Perfect THREE times since I arrived. THREE times in 1 month. Thankfully I've avoided watching all three times. But they just get so disgusted with me when I say that Pitch Perfect is terrrible! With that many r's. However, Ruby Sparks and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World should be added to the Best Movies list. Along with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Wristcutters: A Love Story and Almost Famous.
