Pictures from my Phone & Weekly Distractions

I'm so nervous. 24 hours from now the Niece Who Hates Me is coming to my house for a sleepover. I'm going to spend the entire day tomorrow writing down lists of jokes and things I can do with my hair so she'll like me.

Tonight I combed through your emails to bring you this week's Pictures and Distractions. I've been meaning to mention it for a while, and I've probably mentioned it before, but I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all of the emails and messages. I have been terrible in the last year at responding to emails. There have gotten to be so many and it has become difficult to respond as much as I would like. But I promise you, I read every single one from beginning to end. Sometimes I even start writing a response but then I get distracted because eating and TV and WHAT IF PAUL SIMON.

So if you've got some email sitting in my inbox and you're super pissed because I haven't written back and told you how good your hair looks today, rest assured that it's not because I don't love you. And I do think your hair looks super good today.

And now, your Pictures and Distractions:
Mr. Ollie Pants taking a nap on my lap after licking my knee.

Matt replaces Eli's kitchen light.

With this! Exposed Edison bulbs.

I know I shared this picture the other day but I wanted to throw it out there again because I'm looking for ideas on what to do with it. I found this in my garage. It's steel. I was thinking about turning it into a planter box of sorts. Thoughts?

Entryway table now decorated with pumpkins BECAUSE I CAN SO LEAVE ME ALONE.

  1. Yes! Plantar immediately came to mind. I actually think that might've been a coal forge, and can't think of another use. Did someone die in the house before you moved there? It's got some strange features... ;)

  2. That crocheted body suit is a steal at $263.58!

  3. I'd use the steel box it as a free-standing fire pit for your back yard..... lay a patio and use it off to the side for chilly fall evenings when you still want to be outside.

    2. I third this idea OR I first thought it was a hearth. you could put wood in it and put it in your fireplace - the pretension of a possible fire at some point, but you just actually never light it.

  4. If you could clean it up, and found some sort of really nice wood to go on top of it, that metal contraption would make a GORGEOUS little table. In other news, you look fantastic today. All this inversion and your hair still looks that good? Teach me your ways.

    1. Or you could put glass on top. That would look awesome.

How big is it anyway? I actually thought it was a four-poster bedframe when you first posted it.

  5. oh my gosh! The rainbow sponge lady. Thank you for this. Everyone should be this excited about something in their lives!! "I squeezed, and squeezed, and squeezed..." priceless!

  6. Can you post a picture of that thing from a different angle? It looks square but the photo makes it look oddly 2 dimensional...in a weird way.

But yeah, I agree with others. A planter.

  7. I love that little contraption that you found. I agree that it would make a beautiful planter, but it would also look really nice as a magazine rack if you clean it up.

  8. Isn't the thing from your garage for a fireplace??

    1. I think it may have previously been in the fireplace but the wood-burning fire place has since been updated to gas and in that process this was probably discarded to a lonely life in the garage.

    2. I'd check resale prices. I think I've seen some selling for a pretty penny. (Sorry if this posts multiple times, when it asks me to sign in it doesn't do anything and I have to start over)

  9. Do not turn that into a planter box. Clean it up, paint it, make a plush, cushiony top and turn it into an ottoman with storage for blankets and the like. . . .

    1. That could be interesting, but does your opinion change if I tell you it's really heavy? Like 60 pounds heavy?

  10. Pretty it and plush it like the previous commentor suggested, but make a doggie bed for Ollie!

  11. This is all so Jeff Lewis of you, Eli -- well done! I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the whole LDS news conference this past week-- you've continually expressed such strong views on the subject I'm surprised that any part of the statement didn't make the ol' weblog.

  12. Can Matt come fix my kitchen light?? #drooling #swoon

  13. You could turn it into a doggy sleep bed for Ollie. Cushioned with padding and some stylish fabric would make it rather kingly for his sleep-overs... and another reason to have them. :D
