Messing with People on Tinder

Last week I was hanging out with my friend Brandt at his place. Then I took his phone and started Tindering for him. In case you're unaware, Tinder is what the kids are calling a "dating app" for the phone where you connect with people based on whether or not you think they are attractive and then you start chatting with them. Brandt, being the beautiful man of wonder that he is, has many Tinder matches. But after I got done contacting these matches, he probably won't have many Tinder dates.

  1. This is hilarious. Please do more...if anyone ever trusts you with their phone again.

  2. Ok Eli, i had the Tinder for a couple months and i don't understand something.

The guys on there who are my matches presumably saw my picture and the little "about me" blurb and were not immediately projectile vomiting and therefore clicked the little heart button, yes?

But half of them, i say "hello" to and they immediately disappear, as though they've deleted their account in horror.

And the other half respond back (or initiate conversation first) but then only respond to my responses with "lol"

Am i Tindering wrong?! I can't even get a screenshot-worthy funny moment out of it.

    1. You really want Eli to tell you how to use Tinder?

    1. I was ABSOLUTELY going to say Nicole FTW, and she's a definite "keeper" - except we don't know if Brandt shares Eli's sense of humor, or if she and Eli would ever "match up" on Tinder. Too bad these apps don't let you photobomb.

    2. Totally! Nicole's a keeper. Brandt?! We - Stranger Fans - got you a match. You're welcome!

  7. I'm curious as to how long you kept your friend's phone. The timing is a bit off on some of those responses ...

    1. I sent all of the initial messages one night within about an hour of each other. When I saw him the next day for our mid-day swim, he showed me that some of the people had responded--so I responded again to a couple of them.

  8. I keep meaning to tell you, and forgetting, but this post reminded me: I signed up for Tinder for a laugh when you wrote about it last, around October I think. I'd never heard of it before and had no idea how nefariously people outside of Mormonville use this app. At first it was just a boost to my ego; "Look at all these good looking men who also think I'm good looking!" I quickly found out that it was full of men looking for one night stands, but before I could delete it I got a nice message from a cute guy who didn't seem obsessed with sticking his "bread" in my "basket" and letting me "jumprope" his "dinosaur" while "eating donuts", or some other depraved sexual activity. We started talking and he turned out to be the love of my life (seriously). We're planning on getting married next year, and never would have met if it wasn't for me reading your first blog about Tinder. So thank you for changing my life for the better, forever...also your hair looks really good today. If you want to come officiate our wedding, or be the best man or MC or something, just let me know. You've got an open invitation. =)

    5. By the way, I would like to both officiate AND emcee your wedding. Please tell me your offer was real.

    6. Lol seriously. But only if you bring Jolyn. We're in the market for an officiant. It will be in April 2015, most likely in PA, about 2 hours north of DC
